But there’s much more to this book than some mighty fine whiskey – “the trip’s the thing” (apologies to Shakespeare). I envision this book as being a literary necklace: the distilleries are the primary beads. Each is similar in some ways, but also a bit different. They all have their own unique shapes, colors, and textures. But a necklace made up of only a collection of large beads would not be that interesting. History tidbits are secondary beads. They too are unique, adding variety and contrast to the primary beads. Between them are Findings, the colorful little shiny bits that jewelry makers use to offset and bridge the larger pieces of their design. The road trip is the string that binds all the various parts together into a coherent whole and Highway 61 is the clasp tying the two ends together.
Good whiskey is best enjoyed with friends. Plan a trip that allows you to share these experiences with others.
